Windows Update stuck in preparing to install

Did your windows coming free when windows update or preparing to install and installing update 15%

If you see that message when loading your windows ,it because your windows updating not done properly. It can happen because of your antivirus also, like who using

  • Users running ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.x or ESET Smart Security 4.x may encounter a system freezes while configuring Windows updates are being configured on machines running Microsoft Windows 7.
  • The process will not continue once it reaches 15%.

But  we should fix the windows first in the case of freezing ,so do  following steps

Step 1 – First restart your windows  and press F8 in your  keyboard  in order to get safe mode

Step 2 – press enter on safe mode  ,wait until you get to the desktop.

Step 3 – Now go  Start →All programs →Accessories→System Tools→System Restore


Step 4 –  Select  choose a different restore point and make next


Step 5 – After you see  critical  windows update  ,select the old  description than windows update { the time when your windows  load properly}    Dont forget to check scan affected  if programs. if it is important make back up

Step 6–  After clicking next  ,windows will restart to old stage   load normally

Step 7–  Go start  control panel→system and security→ turn windows update on or off 


Step 8– Keep everything  same as above pic , remove ticks and keep Never check for updates  {if you don’t want windows update}

Now your computer will work  properly


Check your product version

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
  2. Click Help and Support › About ESET Smart Security or About ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
